Domancy

Domancy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Domancy is on 563 m above sea level. M., southeast of Sallanches, about 52 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village with views of Mont Blanc extends basin of Sallanches on the southwestern edge of the Arvetals, the staircase to the summit of Megève, in the southeastern Faucigny.

The area of ​​7.40 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the upper Arvetals. The northern border is in the middle of here about 2 km wide valley. From the plane, the municipality's area extends southward to the adjacent, relatively gently inclined slopes. With 900 m above sea level. M. is achieved the highest elevation of Domancy on the northern slopes of Mont d' Arbois.

History

The territory of Domancy was inhabited in prehistoric times. First mentioned is the place in 1339 under the name Domensier. Probably the place name goes back to the person names Domantius.

Attractions

The village of Saint-André church was built in 1717 in the Baroque style and completely restored in 1985 for the last time. It has murals and a wooden statue from the 17th century. Also from the 17th century comes the rectory. Above the village stands the Château de la Perche, which was built in 1860.

Population

With 1859 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Domancy one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1970s, a substantial population increase was recorded. Outside the old town center and on the slopes of numerous single-family homes were built.

Economy and infrastructure

Domancy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in Sallanches and Cluses, their work.

The village has a good infrastructure. Domancy is on the main road N205 that runs from Annemasse via Cluses to Chamonix. Further road links exist with Combloux and Passy. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about 4 km. Domancy has a station on the railway line leading through the Arve Valley La Roche- sur -Foron -Saint -Gervais.
