Domenico di Michelino

Domenico di Michelino (* 1417 in Florence, † 1491 same place ) was an Italian painter of the Florentine school and a pupil of the famous Fra Angelico.

Domenico's nickname refers to his first teacher, an ivory carver named Michelino. Domenico was elected in 1442 the Compagnia di San Luca in 1444 and joined the Arte dei Medici e degli specialization.

Michelino painted mainly scenes from the Bible. His most famous work is found in the Florentine cathedral, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, including Dante and the Three Kingdoms with Dante Alighieri. The work shows a historic view of Florence about 1465 and scenes from Dante's Divina Commedia ( Divine Comedy ): hell, the mountain of purgatory and the earthly paradise with Adam and Eve.
