Domenico Modugno

Domenico Modugno ( born January 9, 1928 in Polignano a Mare, † August 6, 1994 on Lampedusa ) was an Italian singer and songwriter. Even as an actor, he came into existence.

Life

At a very early age Modugno wanted to be an actor. After his military service, he enrolled in an acting school and also got a few roles in feature films. After the role in Rebel for Freedom ( Il rosso mantello, 1955) Modugno began to sing.

In 1958 he won with his song Nel blu di blu dipinto the Sanremo Festival and represented his country after the Euro Vision Song Contest. Although he finished as a singer, composer and lyricist of the song at the end only the third place, it was his song, under the title Volare ( Nel blu di blu dipinto ) went around the world and has even been in the U.S. for success. Modugno received this as a performer and as a copywriter in 1958, two Grammy Awards in the categories "Record of the Year" and " Song of the Year" and achieved in 1958 also took first place in the American Billboard Magazine determined and published official U.S. sales charts ( category Top Pop Singles ).

In 1959, Modugno again participate in the Euro Vision Song Contest. With Piove he reached the 6th place. Also, this song was re- titled Ciao, ciao, bambina a commercial success.

With two songs he won in 1958 and 1959, the Sanremo Festival. He could this success in 1962 with Addio ... addio ... and 1966 with Dio, come ti amo repeat.

In 1960 he was accused of having taken over substantial parts of Nel blu di blu dipinto from an opera. However, a court did not accept the allegations of plagiarism.

1963 staged Modugno his only feature film, the resulting in its screenplay Tutto è musica, which he also produced in the lead role with himself. The mid-1960s he had on TV a triumphant success with " Scaramouche ". Other TV productions were "Il marchese di Roccaverdina ", " Don Giovanni in Sicilia " and " Western di cose nostre ".

After a stroke suffered in 1984 to Modugno concentrated on his compositional activities and turned to politics.

In 1986, he joined the Radical Party and represented it from 1987 to 1990 in the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament.
