Domenico Serafini

Cardinal Domenico Serafini, OSB ( born August 3, 1852 in Rome, Italy, . † March 5, 1918 ibid ) was Archbishop of Spoleto and later became a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Domenico Serafini resigned after his school days, a Benedictine monk and put the profession in 1874. He studied in various houses of his order, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. In 1877 he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. From 1889 to 1891 he worked in Subiaco monastery as a novice master, from 1891 to 1892 he was prior of the monastery of St. Scholastica in Subiaco. In the years 1892-1896 he worked in Rome as procurator general of his order. In 1896 he was elected abbot of Subiaco his confreres and Abbot General of the Congregation of Cassinenser the original observance, which are known under the name Sublazenser Congregation today.

On April 16, 1900, he was named Pope Leo XIII. Archbishop of Spoleto. He received his episcopal consecration Kardinalgroßpönitentiar Serafino Vannutelli on 26 May of the same year. In 1904 he was sent by Pope Pius X. as Apostolic Delegate to Mexico, 1911, he entrusted him with the task of Assessors in the Holy Office. On 2 March 1912 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Seleucia Pieria and included as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Cecilia in the College of Cardinals on 25 May 1914. On January 26, 1916 Pope Benedict XV appointed him. first to the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Religious, on March 24, 1916 to the then Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.

Domenico Serafini died on 5 March 1918 in Rome and was buried in the local cemetery " Campo Verano ".
