Domenico Tardini

Domenico Cardinal Tardini (* February 29, 1888 in Rome, † 30 July 1961 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Domenico Tardini received his theological and philosophical formation at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome and received on 20 September 1912, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Subsequently, he worked in Rome in the formation of priests. In 1921 he entered the service of the Vatican, where he worked in the Department of Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. From 1923 to 1929, he provided the task of ecclesiastical assistant of the Catholic youth organizations in Italy ( Azione Cattolica ). 1929 Pope Pius XI appointed him. to the Under Secretary, 1937 Secretary of Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs for Kurialabteilung. On July 2, 1937 Pius XI gave him. also the honorary title of Apostolic prothonotary. In 1935 Domenico Tardini also worked for the Vatican Secretariat of State. Pope Pius XII. appointed him in 1952 to pro- secretary and wanted to record him in 1953 in the College of Cardinals, which Domenico Tardini declined out of modesty.

Pope John XXIII. appointed him on 17 November 1958 Secretary of State and at the same time to the archpriest of the Vatican basilica of St. Peter, the prefect of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs and Prefect of the Congregation for the Fabric of St. Peter.

On 14 December the same year, he was named John XXIII. Titular Archbishop of Laodicea in Syria, it a day took it as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Apollinare alle Terme Neroniane - Alessandrine in the College of Cardinals and donated to him on 27 December of the same year, the episcopal ordination.

Domenico Tardini died on 30 July 1961 in Rome and was buried in the church of the Carmelite Monastery of Vetralla.
