Domenico Trezzini

Domenico Andrea Trezini (* 1670 in Astano, .. † 19 Februarjul / March 2 1734greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Swiss architect; his Russian name was Andrej Jakimowitsch Trešin or Andrei Petrovich Trešin.

Origin and family

Domenico Trezzini was born in Astano, a small village in the Swiss canton of Ticino, and has probably studied in Rome. He was married three times, which, inter alia, that caused not only the birth years of his children are far apart, but some ambiguities exist regarding the kinship of some individuals in this noble family.

His son Pietro Antonio Trezzini ( 1710 Astano - 1734 Astano ), left Russia in 1725, he is sometimes confused with the architect Pietro Trezini, . but probably it is they are two different people. As is apparent from Russian archives, another son, Matteo Trezini returned (after 1710 - after 1750 ) with the Russian name Matvey Andreevich Trezini, after the death of his father to St. Petersburg back and has operated as a physician.

Carlo Giuseppe Trezzini (1697, Astano - 1768, Saint Petersburg), (Russian: Osip Petrovich Trešin ), as was his son married to his daughter Maria Lucia Tomasina Trezini.

Professional work

Trezini was among other architects offered by the Russian Tsar Peter I to plan the occasion of the founding of the new capital of St. Petersburg in 1703, where several buildings. As court architect, he contributed significantly to the creation of the most representative buildings of the city. His outstanding works are notably example the Peter and Paul Cathedral ( 1712-33 ), the Summer Palace of Peter I ( 1710-14 ) and numerous buildings at the former port area.
