Terms and expressions

For domestic staff, many terms are used: household help (especially in marginal employment ), maids, domestics (obsolete), auxiliary power in the household, domestic servant, daughter of the house or colloquially jokingly as the "Pearl ". In the hotel industry is spoken by staff, if not the service in the restaurant industry is meant. The distribution of the various terms also varies regionally, so love to talk, for example in Austria by the caregiver as Besorgerin.

In households with two or more forces, then one speaks of a home economics Erstkraft and second force (eg, housekeeper, from the Occupational Group: home economics leader) or a force that directs the household, such as a butler. For example, as mentioned Erstkraft the housekeeper and as a second force the cleaning lady or cleaning woman / maid or domestic help. However, employees today have not been with a rule.

Caregivers and men

As a caregiver or Zugehmann is referred to staff and housekeepers. The term comes from the time before the technological revolution which posh households for numerous activities staff employed ( washerwomen, maids, coachmen, gardeners, etc. ) to denote the part of staff, unlike, say, the servants not in the household the employer lived, thus " went to the service." This often deviated from the uniform rules of the caregivers and men of which the servants. Nowadays, the term is still around in the Bavarian -speaking countries (mainly in the form of " course Herin " ) as a synonym for Housekeeper or home aid application.

Qualification

Mostly it is assumed in this range of low-skilled labor. This, however, does not consider that it is for example in the purification to physically heavy work for the pursuit of hygienic, technical and ergonomic working skills are required. An underlying experience by " family work " in their household is implicitly assumed, but is not recognized as an actual qualification. It is important for the employer honesty and confidentiality of persons employed, as they naturally gain access to all living rooms and inevitably have insight into the private lives of their employers.

A systematic training and in-service training of employed persons in private households is not yet the norm. This is partly responsible for the poor image of such persons employed circle what fumes also the interest of potential employees and service customers. For service centers, the implementation of education and training is at the discretion of the company.
