Dometius of Byzantium

Dometius (Greek: Dometios ) ( † 284) was bishop of Byzantium as the successor of Titus.

Dometius was supposed to be a brother of the Emperor Probus. He grew up as a heathen and then converted to Christianity. In the year 272, he took over the office of bishop of Titus. His term falls in the reign of the last emperor vordiokletianischen soldiers. The Christian community was largely spared in this time of persecution. Successor in the episcopate was Rufinus I. A son of Dometius, Probus should later become a bishop of Byzantium.
