Domfaing

Domfaing is a commune of 242 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges, founded the Canton Brouvelieures and on the 1998 Association of Municipalities Canton de Brouvelieures.

Geography

The community Domfaing lies in the western foothills of the Vosges Mountains, about halfway between Saint- Dié and Epinal.

The center of the Genmeindegebietes forms a basin that was created by the confluent streams here Ruisseau de Moxené and Ruisseau de Buttant. To the north, the basin opens to drain the streams towards Mortagne. The municipal area of Domfaing heard in the north a two kilometers long section of Mortagnetales. At the edges of the pelvis partially raise striking mountains, the 444 m high Haut de Belmont in the south and up to 508 m high ridge called Contimpierre in the north.

The slopes north of Mortagne and the area around the Haut de Belmont is forested, about the settlement Domfaing there is pasture and arable land before. A still clearly visible path is the 1988 disused railway line from Mont- sur -Meurthe on Rambervillers after Bruyeres, the south of the village center and was rising toward Bruyeres to overcome the ridge between the valleys of Mortagne and Vologne.

To Domfaing include the districts Neuf Moulin and La Hazelle and the hamlet of Haut de Belmont with the Church of St. Lawrence.

Neighboring communities of Domfaing are Mortagne in the north, Les Rouges- Eaux and Bois -de- Champ in the Northeast, Belmont- sur- Buttant the southwest, Vervezelle in the southwest and Brouvelieures in the West.

History

The name Domfaing is composed of the Latin domus ( = house) and fagne / Faing ( = fen, marsh ) together.

The village Domfaing (formerly also Donfaing ) was originally part of the spell Buttang Belmont. 1593 belonged to Domfaing Baillage Voge and influence of the priors of Bruyeres, from 1751 until the French Revolution to Baillage Bruyeres.

390 acres total, 145 ha arable land, 106 ha of meadows, 125 ha of forest, three acres of gardens and two hectares of wasteland. The main crops were then wheat, rye, oats and potatoes. There was a little starch factory with two workers and five mills with ten workers. The most important source of income was agriculture are the greatest logging and processing boards. Today there are three sawmills in the municipality of Domfaing.

The parish church of St. Lawrence ( Saint -Laurent ) was constructed for the three municipalities Domfaing, Belmont -sur- Buttant and Vervezelle on the Haut de Belmont.
