Dominik Meffert

Life and career

To 2002: The first year as a professional and temporary pause

In the junior level Dominik Meffert could win some tournaments in Europe. In parallel, he also participated in Futures tournaments in the adult area since 1998. In 2000 he was first performed in the tennis world rankings. In 2001 he worked on the ATP Challenger Tour, but could not gain a foothold there. In 2002 he decided to leave once the rest professional career, and instead began a sports studies in Cologne, as he was then " from the head not ready" was in his own words. However, he continued to play tennis team, and participated in the individual at the German Tennis Championships in Quierschied, where he reached the quarter-finals.

2004-2006: first Futures title and ATP debut

After an intermediate diploma we went the end of 2004 with further professional tennis, and in 2005 the first results were: Meffert reached three finals in Futures tournaments, of which he was able to win one in Bagneres -de- Bigorre. In addition, he was the Challenger tournament in Aachen to the semifinals. At the end he was in the top 300 in the world rankings.

Dominik Meffert tried in early 2006 at the Australian Open for the first time, to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament, but failed in the third qualifying round to Danai Udomchoke. In February 2006 Dominik Meffert could qualify for the first time in Rotterdam for the main draw of an ATP tournament, and benefited in his first match of the task his opponent Raemon Sluiter, before he lost to Arvind Parmar. It should be the only ATP tournament this year, for which he was qualified. On Challenger level he could move in November 2006 in Shrewsbury semi-finals, and win his first title in the doubles side of Tomas Behrend in Freudenstadt.

2007-2008: Grand Slam debut, ATP quarter-finals and into the top 200

The first half of 2007 passed without major solo success, the highlight was winning the Challenger tournament in Durban along with Rik De Voest in the doubles competition. In July 2007, Meffert was the first time achieve a Challenger singles final in Scheveningen. He had won here seven matches in a row, including qualifying. It should be followed by greater success: In August 2007, Meffert qualified at the U.S. Open for the first time for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. However, it was already in the first round against Andrei Pavel terminus. Things went better a month later at the ATP tournament in Bangkok: After successful qualification he could defeat the top 100 players Amer Delić and Igor Kunizyn in the first two rounds, reaching a first ATP quarterfinal. 2008 Meffert failed to qualify for the first three Grand Slam tournaments. For this he was able to qualify at the ATP tournament in Gstaad, defeating there in the first round the top 30 player Andreas Seppi, but then lost to Jérémy Chardy in a very tight match that was decided only on tie- breaks. On the Challenger Tour he reached the semi-finals twice and three times a quarter final in this year.

2009-2010: Challenger titles and injury

Dominik Meffert abandoned in early 2009 on a trip to Australia, but instead qualified successfully at the ATP tournament in San Jose, where he lost in the first round against Radek Stepanek. In Sarajevo, he reached his second Challenger final, where he was Ivan Dodig defeated in March 2009. In July 2009, followed at the ATP tournament in Stuttgart another successful qualifying and first round defeat against Victor Hanescu, a month later Meffert was in Geneva to a victory over Benjamin Balleret finally celebrate his first Challenger title.

The year 2010 began with a double title at the Challenger tournament in Tangier. In April, a very successful trip to South America followed with three Challenger titles: On the side of the Austrian Philipp Oswald Meffert could win the double in Pereira, and a week later he was in Curitiba, both in single as well as double with Leonardo Tavares victorious. He won the individual against, among others Nicolás Massú, the Olympic champion from 2004, as well as the local hero and top 100 player Marcos Daniel and Ricardo Mello. Also at the ATP tournament in Halle grass he could play a big name conquer: After nachrückte as a lucky loser into the main draw, he met in the first round to Juan Carlos Ferrero, the French Open champion in 2003 and former world number one. At Center Court Meffert defeated the Spaniards set at position 4 in straight sets, but then lost in the second round against the Slovaks Lukáš Lacko, although he had already won the first set. Due to ongoing shoulder problems to Meffert had to have surgery and then dropped out for the rest of the season in July 2010.

2011: Comeback with further Challenger title

In January 2011 Dominik Meffert his comeback in Noumea to over half a year injury break on the Challenger Tour. In individual, he retired as a qualifier in the first round out, but in a double he could just win his first title this year along with Frederik Nielsen. When qualifying for the Australian Open 2011 Meffert already retired on the first lap out against Bobby Reynolds. During the subsequent Challenger tournament in Heilbronn Meffert could reach the quarter-finals in singles, and defeated inter alia the top 100 players Marsel İlhan. A week later Meffert only ended in the semifinals by eventual tournament winner Marius Copil in Courmayeur. In Wolfsburg, then he reached the sixth tournament since his injury for the first time a Challenger final. Ruben Bemelmans counter though he won the first set, but lost the match just like then the doubles final with Frederik Nielsen still in three sets. Just two weeks later reached Meffert at Challenger tournament in Kyoto again both single as well as double the final. First, he won the doubles together with Simon Stadler the title, and a day later he also won the singles final against Cedrik -Marcel Stebe young. In the world rankings, he then climbed back into the Top 200. The clay court season of 2011 was less successful for Meffert: In five tournaments he failed already in the first round at the French Open, he retired in the second qualifying round. Things went better on turf in June Dominik Meffert succeeded him at the ATP tournament in Halle, as last year the qualification, however, he lost in the first round against the eventual finalists Philipp Petzschner. The end of July Meffert won in Dortmund together with Björn Phau his third double -challenger title this year.

Since 2002: Career as a club player

Dominik Meffert played since 2002 in the 1st Tennis League for the TK Kurhaus Aachen, with whom he became German champion in 2008 and 2009 and in 2005 German Vice Champion. In 2011, Aachen was the third time German champion. At the presentation ceremony was allowed Meffert, who had contributed a single and three double victories this season, take as a team leader in receiving the trophy.
