Dominion Bond Rating Service

DBRS (formerly Dominion Bond Rating Service ) is the largest Canadian rating agency. It is headquartered in Toronto with offices in New York and Chicago.

History

The company was founded by German -born Canadians Walter Schroeder (originally Schröder ) established in 1976, which is still (2011 ) Owner and President. The agency began with the evaluation of short-term money market instruments, but expanded its business after two years in corporate and government bonds. Due to its popularity in the art and by his familiarity with the major Canadian companies to Schroeder was able to secure the Canadian market and prevent an advance of Moody 's and Standard & Poor's, as foreign investors began to invest in the Canadian economy in the 1980s. The Agency has sought to expand internationally in 2003 and received approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In 2005, the first European offices were opened in London, Paris and Frankfurt, but they were already closed in early 2008 due to the financial crisis. Meanwhile, Schroeder's son David took over the operational management.
