Dominion Motors Frontenac

Dominion Motors was a Canadian automobile manufacturers, the cars of the brand Frontenac.

History

Durant Motors in New York City used the brand name Frontenac for the first time in 1931 for the vehicles they manufactured and sold in Canada. The Canadian Durant Motors Company was then taken over by a group of Canadian investors. Firm in the Dominion Motors Ltd. renamed. The construction of Durant and Frontenac cars went on. The first Frontenac in 1931 was the model 6-18, had 2,769 mm wheelbase, and was based on the Durant 6-19.

After the demise of Durant Motors 1932 Dominion Motors to De Vaux took as a design example. The Frontenac 's lineup in 1932 consisted of two six-cylinder engines, the 6-70 with 2,769 mm wheelbase, the A revised last year's model was basically 6-18, and 6-85 with 2,896 mm wheelbase on the De Vaux 6-80 based.

As previously Durant Motors came the De Vaux Motors Company into financial difficulties: The company was acquired late 1932 by its largest lenders, the Continental Motors Company. Continental decided to continue the De Vaux- production under his own name and Dominion Motors took as the Continental De Vaux as a model. Both companies had the same, consisting of three models range.

The last Frontenac models were the C -400, a four cylinder with 2,578 mm wheelbase, which was based on the Continental De Vaux Beacon, and the C- 600 with 2,718 mm wheelbase, which was based on the six-cylinder Continental De Vaux flyer. The Continental De Vaux Ace with 2,896 mm Wheelbase, also with six-cylinder engine, imported Frontenac from the USA and sold it with my own company emblems, as Frontenac Ace.

While Continental manufactured cars until 1934, but withdrew in 1933 Frontenac back. Dominion Motors also built REO cars and trucks for the Canadian market. In the early 1950s used the REO business, and 1950/1951 Kaiser- Frazer took a part of the factory for the production of Kaiser sedans for the Canadian market.
