Dominique Bouhours

Dominique Bouhours ( born May 15, 1628 Paris, † May 27, 1702 in Paris) was a French Jesuit priest, philologist, historian and author of religious works. He influenced important authors of the French classicism as Boileau, La Bruyère and Racine.

Together with Michel Le Tellier and Pierre Besnier, he developed a translation of the New Testament into French by the Vulgate, which was printed in 1686 under the title Le Nouveau Testament de Nostre Seigneur Jesus-Christ in Paris.
