Dominique Foata

Dominique Foata ( born October 12, 1934 in Damascus ) is a French mathematician who deals with enumerative combinatorics and probability theory.

Foata 1965 at Marcel -Paul Schützenberger his doctorate at the University of Paris ( Etude de certains algébrique problèmes d'Analyse et du Calcul des probabilites Combinatoire ). He was a professor at the University of Strasbourg (IRMA ).

It dealt among other things with the combinatorics and special functions with statistics of permutations.

In 1983 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Warsaw ( Combinatoire of identitées sur les polynomial orthogonaux ). In 1985 he was awarded the Science Prize of the Union des Assurances de Paris and, in 1985, the Prix Paul -Émile Doistau is bleeding.

With Volker Strehl and Adalbert Kerber, he founded the Séminaire de Lotharingia Combinatoire.
