Domino Recording Company

Domino Records is a British indie label based in London.

History

The label was founded in 1993 by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice in London to bring out with the aim of U.S. indie rock in England or Europe. Accordingly, the first release was a single of the band Sebadoh, which was licensed from Sub Pop. In addition, the label secured the rights for a number of artists, the City stood in the USA drag under contract / standing. While in England Britpop was booming, the sales figures remained manageable at Domino. Only by the British band Franz Ferdinand and their highly successful debut album, as well as the mass- effective internet hype about the Arctic Monkeys, who signed despite other more lucrative offers from Domino, sales rose abruptly. In October 2005, Domino recorded both the first number 1 in the UK album charts (Franz Ferdinand's " You Could Have It So Much Better" ), and the first number 1 in the singles charts ( Arctic Monkeys, " I Bet That You look Good On The Dancefloor "). Due to the financial success of a domino branch in Germany was opened, whose products are currently sold by Indigo.

Offshoots and sub-labels

Domino Records also has a subsidiary in the U.S. ( Domino Records (USA) ) with some of the other acts, and on the sub-label Geographic Music.
