Dompierre -sur -Mont is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Dompierre -sur -Mont is located at 515 m above sea level. M., 14 km south-southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The scattered village extends in the Jura, on a plateau between the heights of the Bois du Crotard in the West and in the East Mont Chavet.

History

The territory of Dompierre -sur -Mont was inhabited in prehistoric times and during the Gallo- Roman period. Is first documented in the 12th century Dompierre. The place name derives from Dominus Peter. In the Middle Ages belonged to the barony Dompierre Orgelet. In 1639, the village of Marquis de Villeroy was sacked. Together with the Franche -Comté Dompierre came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To avoid confusion with other municipalities of the same name, Dompierre was officially renamed in 1901 in Dompierre -sur -Mont.
