Domus Transitoria

The Domus Transitoria (literally " halfway house " ) was a palace on the Palatine Hill in Rome, the Roman emperor Nero was built in the 1st century AD. The Domus Transitoria connected the old imperial buildings on the Palatine with the likewise located in the imperial possession "Gardens of Maecenas " on the Esquiline. It was largely destroyed in the fire of Rome in the year 64 and replaced by the Domus Aurea.

In parts of the Domus Aurea, which are likely to include the Domus Transitoria to wall paintings found with classical motifs; multi-row ornaments like stylized flowers include image fields. The most important element is the kymation, also Kyma; these are concave or convex rods as a border strip between individual components. Stuck rows form the outermost frame. The images are afloat, but just painted. You probably contain mythological themes, but they are not to be interpreted accurately.
