The phrase " Do not Mess with Texas " ( engl. "Lie you not with Texas " ) is a protected trademark slogan of the Texas Department of Transportation, the Department of Transportation of the State of Texas.

Background

The slogan has been held since the start of an advertising campaign with the aim to reduce the littering the streets of the state, in 1986, using and found their way into the American language and popular culture.

" Do not Mess with Texas " was heavily used in TV and radio commercials as well as by road signs. Genesis

The slogan was based on the Austin ( Texas) advertising agency GSD & M Idea City developed the first broadcast of a TV spot, with musician Stevie Ray Vaughan, found on 1 January 1986 during the College Football Cotton Bowl Classics tournament instead. Since that time, many prominent Texans including established for the reception of television or radio clips are available, including Chuck Norris, Owen Wilson, George Foreman, Lance Armstrong and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
