Don Bassman

Don J. Bassman (* April 2, 1927; † January 24, 1993 in Hollywood Hills, California ) was an American sound engineer and sound engineer, who won both an Academy Award for Best Sound as well as an Emmy.

Life

Bassman began his career as a sound engineer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1962 television series such as Mr. Ed and The Addams Family, and worked until 1990 in the production of 65 films and television series with.

Together with Douglas O. Williams, he won at the Academy Awards 1971 Oscar for best sound in the film Patton - Rebell in Uniform ( 1970) and was also with Williams and Don Hall for the British Academy Film Awards ( BAFTA Film Award ) for the best Sound nomination. In 1976 he received an Emmy with Donald F. Johnson for the best sound in Eleanor and Franklin ( 1976), one produced by the ABC television film about U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor Roosevelt.

Another nomination for the Oscar in this category was followed in 1989 with Kevin F. Cleary, Richard Overton and Al Overton Jr. for the film Die Hard (1988). A next Oscar nomination for the best sound he got the Oscar ceremony in 1990 with Cleary, Overton and Lee Orloff Abyss - Abyss of Death ( 1989). For Hunt for Red October (1990 ) he was nominated once again with Richard Bryce Goodman, Overton and Cleary 1991 for an Oscar for Best Sound as well as with Cecilia Hall, George Watters II and Goodman also for another BAFTA Film Award.
