Don Bowman (singer)

Don Bowman ( born August 26, 1937 in Lubbock, Texas, † June 5, 2013 in Forsyth ) was an American country musician, comedian, radio presenter and songwriter. Bowman moderated was the first to show American Country Countdown and was selected by the Country Music Association to the first Country Comedian of the Year.

Life

Don Bowman was born in 1937 in Texas and began his career as a radio host small Texan transmitter. First Bowman was to hear about KDub and KLLL in Lubbock and later moved to other stations with greater range. Already at this time he wrote his first song. Was published in 1961 on the small label LaGree Bowmans debut single with TV Commercials / Coward of the Alamo, followed by Igmoo / Little Bad Dan in the same year in Crescendo Records. The LaGree single brought moderate success, so that Bowman was in 1963 taken from the major label RCA Victor under contract.

Achievements

Bowman's first single Chit Atkins Make Me a Star in 1964 reached # 14 in the Hot Country Songs and the accompanying album Our Man in Trouble # 14 in the country album charts. At the same time he gave Waylon Jennings, at that time just a regional star in Arizona, at RCA and signed with him Just to Satisfy You. In 1966 he was awarded the Favorite Comedy Country Recording Artist Award by Roy Acuff on the Billboard Country Awards; In 1967 he received the title of the CMA Comedian of the Year ( nominated were Ben Colder and Homer and Jethro ).

End of the 1960s were Bowmans charts successes but again, although he was still on the radio. Between 1973 and 1978 he hosted the American Country Countdown to ACC. After 1971 his contract was not renewed with RCA, he moved in 1972, Mega Records, what success but did not return. In 1978, Bowman's last single to date on the Lone Star label.
