Don Cornell

Don Cornell (* April 21, 1919 in New York; † 23 February 2004 in Aventura, Florida; actually Luigi Francisco Varlaro ) was a famous American singer of the 1940s and 1950s.

Cornell started his musical career together with trumpeter Red Nichols and Sammy Kaye, the leader of a big band. As a solo artist Cornell sold more than 50 million records worldwide. His most successful period was from 1952 to 1955, when he had seven top -20 hits in the U.S. charts. With the single Hold My Hand, he finished in the fall of 1954, five weeks at No. 1 on the UK charts. He was inducted into the Big Band Hall of Fame in 1993.

Don Cornell died on 23 February 2004 at the age of 84 years at an advanced emphysema and diabetes.
