Don Cossack Choir

The Don Cossack Choir Serge Jaroff was founded in 1921 by Serge Jaroff ( 1896-1985 ) and consisted of the exiled Don Cossacks. The men's choir performed worldwide, but especially in Europe and the USA and used a repertoire that consisted mainly of Russian church music, folk music and folklore.

Band History

After the expulsion of the Don Cossacks in 1920 by the Red Army Choir Serge Jaroff presented his first time in 1921 in an internment camp in Turkey together. From 1923 the choir had its first appearances as a professional ensemble in Western Europe. In the 1930s, Berlin was the seat of the choir. 1939, the choir was surprised during a U.S. tour from the beginning of World War II and was first again stateless. Later, the singer took the U.S. citizenship and chose New York City as the basis of their work.

The choir was in Paris in 1979 his last concert on 83rd birthday of Serge Jaroff, but was officially until 1981 Jaroff line further.

In 1986, a year after Jaroff death, the choir was together again to tour under the direction of his longtime soloist Michael Minsky, which was also the tenor Nicolai Gedda participated. Due to the poor health status of Minsky and because Nicolai Gedda did not want to sing every day, but this tour was a unique undertaking.
