Don Jackson (ice hockey)

Donald Clinton Jackson ( born September 2, 1956 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American ice hockey coach and former National Hockey League player. Since 2013 he is coach of the EC Red Bull Salzburg.

Career

Jackson began his playing career in the university and college league with the team of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Later he became a star in the NHL Amateur Draft 1976 committed as young talent from the NHL team Minnesota North in the third round at position 39, but came in the following season, only eight missions. His final breakthrough came in the early 1980s with the Edmonton Oilers. For this team, he played between 1982 and 1986 and won by the side of Wayne Gretzky twice the Stanley Cup. His active career he finished with the New York Rangers. He scored in his 311 NHL inserts as a defender 16 goals and 52 templates.

Subsequently, he was mostly active as an assistant coach at several NHL teams, longest at the Ottawa Senators ( 2001-2005 ). 2005 Jackson then moved to the German Hockey League ( DEL), and trained in the later champion Polar Bears Berlin on the defensive. In Berlin he also met his former companion Pierre Pagé - the two had the Quebec Nordiques NHL team trained in the 1990s. After this successful spell in Berlin Jackson joined the 2005/06 season to eight -time German champion from Dusseldorf, the DEG Metro Stars.

These he led by a third place in the preliminary round to the finals of the playoffs in the DEL in which they titled Defender - subject to polar bears Berlin - and Don Jackson's former employer. In addition to the runners, the team reached the final of Jackson to the German Ice Hockey Cup and suggested there the Adler Mannheim. After this the biggest success of the MetroStars since the championship in 1996 Jackson supervised the MetroStars in the season 2006/2007. For the 2007/08 season, he returned as head coach back to the polar bears and signed a two year contract there. In the DEL season 2007/2008 he won the Berlin polar bear both the Cup and the league title. 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 he was with the Berlin Polar Bears repeated German masters. Since 2013 he is coach of the EC Red Bull Salzburg.
