Don Rader

Rader comes from a musical family; he had from the age of five lessons from his father, a trombonist. He was a member of College bands before he became a musician in the Navy. He then studied at Sam Houston State University and Jerry Coker; from 1959 he was with Woody Herman ( Woody's Winners ), 1961-1963 in Maynard Ferguson and Count Basie (1963 /64) operates. Then he played in New York City and moved in 1966 to Los Angeles, where he continued to work for this band leader as an arranger, but also for Louis Bellson, Harry James, Terry Gibbs, Frank Foster and Stan Kenton, and 1967-1972 for Les Brown worked. In the 1970s, in addition to the studio work also joined the line of own formations. 1983 and 1984 he was a member of the orchestra by Erwin Lehn and was next worked for Rudi Fuesers ' " Connexion Latina". From Los Angeles, he worked for other European Radio Orchestra, Charlie Shoemake and Thomas Stabenow. In the late 1980s he undertook with Wilson de Oliveira European tours. Also in the next few years he worked as a guest soloist for German big bands. The precise lead trumpet continued to participate in recordings by Ella Fitzgerald, Don Menza, Bill Holman, Peter Herbolzheimer, Frank Sinatra and The Manhattan Transfer; also he has arranged for Toshiko Akiyoshi, Buddy Rich and Ed Shaughnessy. Since 1994 he lives in Sydney, where he taught at the Sydney Conservatory of Music. He also worked as a lecturer at the University of Redlands, the Cerritos Conservatory and in Christchurch and Wellington.
