Don Samuelson

Donald William Samuelson ( born July 27, 1913 in Woodhull, Henry County, Illinois, † 20 January 2000, Seattle, Washington ) was an American politician and 1967-1961 Governor of the State of Idaho.

Career

Don Samuelson attended Knox College, and then served for two years in the U.S. Navy, where he was involved in the support and maintenance of weapons. After the end of his service he operated a shop in Sandpoint, Idaho. He also sold supplies and equipment for the mining industry.

Samuelson was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1960 and 1966 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Idaho. In 1966 he was elected governor of his state. This post he held between January 2, 1967, and January 4, 1971. He became known when he rejected equal to 39 originals with his veto in 1967. During his governorship, he was on the board of the National Governors Association. At the end of his tenure, Don Samuelson moved back into his private life. He died on January 20, 2000 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle of a heart attack. With his wife, Ruby, he had two children.
