Donald H. Peterson

Donald Herod Peterson ( born October 22, 1933, Winona, Mississippi, United States) is a former American astronaut.

Peterson received a bachelor's degree in 1955 from the West Point Military Academy in 1962 and a master's in nuclear engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. After West Point Peterson worked as a pilot instructor, nuclear weapons specialist and a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force.

MOL

1967 Peterson was selected for the MOL program of the U.S. Air Force. He was hired as a crew of military space station provided to the program in 1969.

1969 Peterson was accepted into NASA's astronaut team. For the mission of Apollo 16, he was a member of the support team.

STS -6

On April 4, 1983 Peterson flew as a mission specialist on the maiden flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger for the first and only time into space. The charge consisted of the satellites TDRS -1 and some experiments. For this mission, Peterson led along with Story Musgrave by the first spacewalk from a space shuttle.

End of 1984, retired from Peterson from NASA and has since worked as a consultant in the field of manned spaceflight.

Private

Peterson and his wife Bonnie have three children.
