Donald McGinley

Donald Francis McGinley (* June 30, 1920 in Keith County, Nebraska; † July 6, 2005 in Lincoln, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1959 and 1961 he represented the fourth electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Donald McGinley attended to 1938 Ogallala High School and then to 1942 the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Then he interrupted his education to join as a soldier in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. In 1949 he finished his studies at Georgetown University in Washington. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began working in 1950 in Ogallala in his new profession. Between 1951 and 1955 he was district attorney in Arthur County. He became a member of the Democratic Party and sat from 1955 to 1959 in the Nebraska Legislature.

In 1958 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he Republican Arthur L. Miller replaced on January 3, 1959. However, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1961, after a defeat in the elections of 1960. Between 1963 and 1964 he was again a member of the Parliament of Nebraska. In the years 1964 and 1968, he participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions relevant.

From 1976 to 1980, McGinley judge at a court in Lincoln, which mainly dealt with cases in the field of business and industry. His last political office he held from 1983-1987 as Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska. Then he withdrew into retirement. Donald McGinley died in July 2005 in Lincoln, capital of Nebraska.
