Donald Moffat

Donald Moffat ( born December 26, 1930 in Plymouth, Devon ) is an American actor of English origin.

Life

Moffat was the only child of Kathleen Mary (nee Smith) and Walter George Moffat, who worked as an insurance agent. His parents ran a guest house in Totnes. He received his degree at King Edward VI School, later he served in the National Service and in the British army. At the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, he took acting lessons.

Career

Moffat began his career as a stage actor in London and New York. He made his debut at the Old Vic Theatre in London. He was a member of the APA (The Association of Producing Artists). In 1967 he was nominated for the Tony Award as the best stage actor. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and he won the Obie Award for Painting Churches.

One of his most famous roles is that of the corrupt American president in the cartel. He also starred in several television productions, such as Logan's Run, The West Wing The West Wing, Dr. Quinn - Medicine Woman and Tales of the City. He also appeared in numerous Broadway and Off - Broadway plays, such as in A Few Stout Individuals by John Guare (as Ulysses S. Grant ), in Painting Churches, The Heiress, The Cherry Orchard, Much Ado About Nothing, The School for Scandal, The Affair and Hamlet.
