Donald Ray Pollock

Donald Ray Pollock ( born December 23, 1954 in Knockemstiff ( Ohio) ( Ross County) ) is an American writer.

Life

Pollock grew up in Knockemstiff, now a ghost town, and has spent his entire adult life in Chillicothe (Ohio ). At 17, he quit school and worked in a slaughterhouse, then in the local paper mill and as a truck driver. At the age of 50 years, Pollock graduated from the prestigious creative writing program at The Ohio State University. In this phase appeared at Doubleday his collection of short stories Knockemstiff, and the New York Times regularly published his election reports from southern Ohio during the presidential election in the United States, 2008. His works have appeared in various literary journals, including Epoch, Sou'wester, Granta, Third Coast, River Styx, The Journal, Boulevard and PEN America.

Prizes and awards

2009 Pollock won the Robert Bingham Prize and the Devil 's Kitchen Award for Prose from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His second book, The Devil All The Time led by Publishers Weekly as one of ten books of 2011. The French edition was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix de littérature policière as well as the Prix Mystère de la critique.
