Donato da Formello

As called Donatello, Donato Formello (* probably 1546-1555 in Formello, † 1572-1585 in Rome ) was an Italian painter and wood sculptor.

Not much is known about the Roman artist Donatello. He was a pupil and assistant of Giorgio Vasari and was involved in its large contracts. Documented is his version of " PASCE oves meas - Feed my sheep " on the bezel of the main portal of St. Peter's. In addition, it is today a wooden statue of assigned " John the Baptist" in the Baptistery of the Lateran, the long erroneously was in later centuries as the work of the sculptor Donatello active in Florence ( Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi ).
