The Dongjiang Dam is an arch dam on the Li Shui in the independent city Zixing, 14 km southwest of the city center, in the province of Hunan, China. The dam was built in 1978-1992 and will supply a 500 MW hydroelectric power plant (Chinese东江水 电厂, Pinyin Dongjiang Shuidianchang ). The dam also serves the flood protection, canalization and water supply. The first generator went into operation in 1987. For the reservoir (东 江湖, Dongjiang Hu) 5.2 million people had to be resettled.

Building

The Dongjiang Dam is a 157 m high and 438 m long arch dam with variable radius. The wall is at its crown structure 7 m wide, 35 m at its base and has a radius of curvature of 302.3 m. It has a catchment area of ​​4719 km ² in size and accumulate an amount of water of 9.565 billion cubic meters. The hydropower plant is at the foot of the wall and has four 125 MW Francis turbines with generators. By damming is a hydraulic head of 118.5 m is available. At the dam there is also a boat lift.
