Dongtan
Dongtan (东滩/东滩, Dongtan ) is a district of the greater community Chenjia the circle Chongming, which is on the same island at the mouth of the Yangtze River and belongs to the city of Shanghai in China. A large village Chenjia manages the extreme east of Chongming Dongtan and in turn the easternmost district Chenjias, directly to the east coast Chongmings.
Nature reserve
A large part Dongtans is the " birds - Dongtan Nature Reserve " (崇明东 滩 鸟类 自然保护区) taken, which covers the entire east coast of the island of Chongming and an important resting place for migratory birds.
Eco-town project
Plan
On the island of Chongming 's first CO2 - neutral and car-free eco-city in Asia to be built with very high energy efficiency, waste management and indoor air is good for close to a billion euros. The master plan was created by the British design firm Arup. First plan target was a population of 30,000 in 2010 and 500,000 at the end goal of the project 2050.
Per capita a management area of 2.2 hectares should not be exceeded. The water supply should be purely environmentally neutral powered by solar or wind power. Since the planned city is on an island, all ferries should be allowed only with environmentally neutral ships and passengers and residents should be advised to cover short distances on land on foot or by bicycle.
For longer trips in the 86 -square-mile city could only vehicles will be allowed which have a zero-emission drive. The air-polluting combustion engine vehicles should be parked in front of the city on a purpose-built car park.
It was a similar concept as the projected eco-city Masdar, a suburb of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Failure
The eco-city project should have been substantially completed for the opening of Expo 2010 in China. By May 2009, although a tunnel and a bridge on the island as well as half a dozen wind generators and an ecological farm were completed, but the planned houses, the proposed sewage treatment plant and the planned energy park were not built; the project was canceled and any reference to Dongtan removed from the website of Expo in Shanghai.
