Dongying

Dongying (Chinese东营 市/东营 市) is a prefecture-level city in east China's Shandong Province. Dongying has an area of ​​7923 km ² and approximately 1.75 million (2002) inhabitants.

Administratively, Dongying is divided into two districts and three counties:

  • City District Dongying (东营 区), 1155 km ², approximately 570,000 inhabitants;
  • Municipality Hekou (河口 区), 2139 km ², 200,000 inhabitants;
  • Circle Kenli (垦利 县), 2204 km ², 210,000 inhabitants;
  • Lijin county (利津县), 1287 km ², 290,000 inhabitants;
  • Circle Guangrao (广饶 县), 1138 km ², approximately 480,000 inhabitants.

The city was founded in 1983. It is an industrial town. Located near Dongying, lies the Shengli oil field, which is one of China's largest oil fields. In Dongying Putonghua ( Mandarin) is spoken.
