Donji Lapac
Donji Lapac is a town and municipality in Lika- Senj, Croatia. The number of inhabitants of the municipality is 2,113 ( 2011 census ), most of whom are Serbs.
Geography
Donji Lapac lies to the east of Lika on the Una river near the mountain Plješevica to 582 m. The municipality is situated on the road Bihać - Gračac.
Demography
According to the 2011 census, the village has 946 inhabitants and the municipality of 2,113 inhabitants. Before the war, the area was inhabited almost only by Serbs. At this time, 0.5% Croats lived in the municipality ( census 1991). Today, more and more Serbs in Donji Lapac, namely 80.6 % Serbs and 18.8% Croats live.
History
The area around Donji Lapac has been inhabited since the Iron Age, as evidenced by findings in the area. During the Middle Ages was Donji Lapac sitting of the district Lapac. 1449 then came into the possession of the place Francopan family. During the Croatian War of Independence Donji Lapac came along with other cities in the unrecognized Republic of Serbian Krajina. Since 1995, the congregation heard again Croatia.
Economy
Donji Lapac is one of the poorest communities in Croatia. Before the war, the city still had a wood and textile industry. The largest employer is Likatrans with 200 points. However, most inhabitants are unemployed. The nevertheless have a job, mostly work in the service or in the timber industry. Also the place is dominated by agriculture. One builds on potatoes and plums, from the latter of brandy Slivovitz is made.
Traffic
In the district of Una Kestenovac is a train that once established the main link between Zagreb and the Dalmatian coast station. Since the end of the Bosnian war, the passenger is set. The train station of Kestenovac was destroyed during the fighting.
