Thunder is a municipality with 1092 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Austrian province of Styria in Liezen and judicial district Lienzen. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the communities Irdning and Donnersbachwald, the new community will be called " Irdning Donnersbachtal ".

Geography
Thunder creek, located in a south-facing side of the Enns River, is part of the Low Tauern.
Community structure
The municipality comprises the following eight villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):

The municipality comprises the cadastral thunder creek and Erlsberg.
Municipal amalgamation
As part of the Styrian community structure reform the church thunder creek will be merged (at the latest in 2015) with the communities Donnersbachwald and Irdning.

Neighboring municipalities are Aigen in the Enns Valley, Oppenberg, Donnersbachwald Oeblarn, Niederöblarn and Irdning.
History
The settlement of the thunder creek valley was already by the Romans ( Romans Donnersbacher stone). About the origin of the place name Rudolf Wernbacher is a possible explanation: " ... Wuotanesouwa, Donaresouwa, Donnersbachau. An old German god ' Wotan, Donar " sacred Au ".
1344 everything was good, fief, court advocacy, and sells Forest of Hartneidstein of Kchranichberg, to the Prince Duke Albrecht II in Austria. The former Bad

Tourism & the Economy
Thunder creek is touristy marked by the highest ski village of Styria, the Planneralm. In summer, take hikes, including through the gorge trail and the mountains of the Wölzer Tauern, at. A fitness trail and a sports center complete the offer.

Culture and sights
Palace and church
The castle building, whose construction time falls approximately in the year 1560 is likely to once have served as a hunting lodge of the Duke Albrecht and his successors. In a report of about 1620 Susanne von Saurau reports that the thunder Bach castle was built by her grandfather.
Previously there was a fortification; its present form, without a church, received the castle 1589th

Ruin Ägydikirche

Gorge rising thunder creek

The drift
The " drift " was a non -hazardous work; once broke the rake, the whole valley was flooded.
Gradually, however, it was discovered next to the work, the beauty of this wild gorge and opened the now -developed Triftsteig in 1936 for visitors. The construction of the road to Donnersbachwald and car traffic, the drift craft was no longer economically viable. The last drift took place in 1961 and 1962, the rake was removed. But the Triftsteig was built as a gorge trail again and again improved.

Thunder creek - the flower village
Thunder creek was chosen in 2005 as the most beautiful flower village of Styria. In addition to the lavish and beautifully designed floral arrangements, it is also thanks to the numerous children's and youth projects, the thunder Bach, helped to victory in this category.
2006 Thunder creek was chosen as the most beautiful flower village in Austria. The 2006 award was motivation to apply for the European Village in 2007. Strong commitment not only in floral arrangements are required for this item, this also the village 's development in recent years and many projects have been used.
Within the European competition " Entente Florale Europe " Thunder Bach 2007 was named the most beautiful flower village in Europe and thus won a gold medal in the village.
