Doorman (profession)
A doorman ( from medieval Latin portenarius for the " gatekeepers " or " gatekeeper " to the Latin porta for the "gate" the " gate" or " pass" ) monitors the incoming and outgoing persons or goods in a building or confined area, opens and closes doors, gates and barriers, and partly perceives information, support and reception duties.
In the Middle Ages the office of porter (Latin Portarius ) was an important official in monasteries.
The function of the porter / doorman is mentioned in the Bible, for example, in the Old Testament 2 Kings 22:04; 1 Chronicles 9:17-27; Psalm 84:10.
