Ushers have the function to take care of a hall. Their duties often include establishing chairs, checking of microphone systems, the admission control and the supervision of guests and conference participants.

Ushers of the German Bundestag

The most famous ushers in Germany are those of the German Bundestag. Organizationally, they are in a part of the property segment ( plenary and committee assistance service ) in the Org Unit - Technical Parliament service of the Department Z ( Central Services ) based in the federal administration. They are led by a master and his place Plenarsekretären which, thanks to the support of many Plenarassistenten for an organizationally and technically smooth implementation of the plenary sessions. The term usher is thus a collective term for all of these employees.

In their uniforms, the typical dark blue coat with gold buttons and federal eagles, they shall ensure that only the authorized Access to the Chamber or to meetings of working groups and parliamentary committees receive. During the meetings, the ushers will make sure that the lectern is always set to the correct height and the speakers each standing by a fresh glass of water. Press the rings before the beginning or at the plenary votes on the Hammelsprung, put the tape with the church bells for the morning service and inform you of a display on the next agenda. Furthermore, they share the printed materials to the members of parliament from the control inputs to the Chamber or manage the attendance lists. Occasionally they errands for Members and inform them about important calls.

Before the committee or plenary sessions they check whether the microphone systems and possibly transmission facilities for interpreters function properly. Where appropriate, they shall ensure that defective equipment replaced or the necessary repairs are carried out. Ushers also make sure that, for example, for meetings of committees and working groups sufficiently ready drinks.

In the free time meeting the ushers have other tasks that you can manage cleanup, remodeling, small removals and are responsible for flagging the parliamentary estate.
