The Doosan Arena is a football stadium in the western Bohemian city of Pilsen. By November 2011, the venue was called the stadium města Plzně ( German stadium in the city of Pilsen ) before the South Korean conglomerate Doosan acquired the naming rights to the stadium. The football club Viktoria Plzen plays its home games from here. Colloquially it is called Stadium ve Štruncových sadech ( German stadium in Štrunc Park).

The capacity is since the recent renovation in 2011 a total of 13,000, of which 11,700 seats. In addition, the stadium was converted into a pure football stadium without a running track.

History

Construction of the stadium in the city park Štruncovy sady in 1953, two years later it was completed. The capacity was 25,000 spectators. Architects of the project were as Kavan and J. Brabec Stavoprojekt of Plzeň.

So far the only international match at the stadium ve Štruncových sadech took place on 26 April 1972. In a friendly match Czechoslovakia defeated the team from Luxembourg in front of 5,000 spectators 6-0.

In 1997 the capacity increased to 35,000, of which 7,600 covered seats in the stands, also a turf heating system was installed. A year later, a career has been installed since found in the stadium regularly athletics events, 2004, for example, the Czech championships.

In 2002, the stadium was severely damaged by flood, then it was fundamentally reconstructed. Part of the standing room was closed off in other areas, even in the main stand, plastic seat shells were installed. The capacity thus dropped to about 7,500 places. The stadium consisted of a covered and uncovered grandstand seats in the remaining region.

An American football game between the Patriots and the Pilsen Liberec Highlanders took place at the stadium on May 6, 2007.

When remodeling 2011, three stands were demolished, the grandstand remained as a single and was only partially restored. During the reconstruction Viktoria Pilsen wore his international games in the Synot Tip Arena in Prague. As the first game in the final stadium, the UEFA Europa League sixteenth -final first leg was played against Schalke 04 on 16 February 2012, which ended 1-1.
