Dope (Band)

Dope is a Alternative-Metal-/Nu-Metal-Band, which was founded in New York in 1997.

History

Edsel Dope, the Lead-Sänger/Song-Writer, founded the band. As a child, he and his brother, Simon Dope separated when their parents divorced. As adults, they met again and Simon joined Edsel's band on keyboards. The two then brought Acey Slade as bassist, Preston Nash as drummer, and Sloane Jentry as guitarist in the band.

Their first album was Felons and Revolutionaries, the band in 1999, self-published and having been strongly influenced by the Industrial Metal of the 1990s. Despite his Epic Records imprint, the album was later re-released by Sony. After the following tour Edsel and his brother changed the line-up the band and recorded Life, which makes the musical shift towards the alternative metal significantly. After his release, Simon Dope left the group to pursue a career as a video game producer. Disappointed by the poor marketing by Epic Records, the band left the label and produced Group Therapy with a different line-up. It was released by Artemis Records. A song of the album, Today Is the Day, served as the official song organized by the WWE pay- per-view event No Mercy in October 2003. Since then, the line-up has changed again.

Dope was also very often played as background music for the Extreme Championship Wrestling shows and Debonaire was even the theme music for earlier events WWE Extreme Championship Wrestling ( ECW), and also the current Total Nonstop Action Wrestling Star Terry Gerin ( Rhino ). This song was also played in the movie The Fast and the Furious. The song Always was used in the trailer for the Malaysian MMORPG Risk Your Life. In addition Dope produced the soundtrack to American Psycho ( You Spin Me Right Round ).

In Japan, Dope has a large following. When the band decided to go there and tour, they were not exactly welcomed. They were hated by the older Japanese people, as they would make "bad" music. There were even created campaigns against them: "No Dope in Japan! " However, none of these campaigns was successful against these supposedly evil tape and dope came but the successful Japan Tour ( 2005).

Dope toured with bands such as Pigface, Mushroomhead, Motograter, Twisted Method, Manntis, Social Burn, Static-X and Saliva.

After much trouble with their record label, Koch Records dope album No Regrets was released on 10 March 2009. Already on February 5, the first single appeared Addiction. In 2013 it was announced that guitarist Dope "virus" currently looking into the Disturbed frontman David Draiman is working on his new project called Device.
