Dorado Schmitt

Dorado Schmitt ( * May 29, 1957 in Saint- Avold ) is a musician ( lead guitar, the violin and singing ) Swing Manouche of. He has renewed the genre with Raphaël Fays and Biréli Lagrène.

Schmitt, cousin of Tchavolo Schmitt, began at the age of seven years as a guitarist. In 1978 he founded his Dorado Trio with bassist Gino Reinhardt and the rhythm guitarist Hono Winterstein. In 1983 he recorded his first album; Hommage a la romenes (producer: Dr. Dieter Massion ). The second Notre histoire LP was in 1986 in Germany a few weeks at the top of the jazz albums sold. Together with Philip Catherine and Oscar Peterson, he has performed at many European jazz festivals. He then played at Wedeli Köhler. After a serious car accident in 1988 he was able in 1990 to start work with his trio again. 2001 and in subsequent years, he has enjoyed success in New York's Birdland (DVD 2004, inter alia, with James Carter ). His playing is documented in Tony Gatlif's film Latcho Drom.

His play Bossa Dorado became the Jazz Standard. In 2001 he was awarded the Django award.
