Dordtsche Kil

The Dordtsche Kil is a body of water in South Holland in the Netherlands. It establishes a connection between the Hollands Diep and Oude Maas, south of Rotterdam, and separates the island of Dordrecht from the Hoeksche Waard. By Kiltunnel the two islands are connected to each other, also passes under the high-speed line south the Kil. At the mouth of the Dordtsche Kil is Strijensas, at the confluence with the Oude Maas River, the extended port and industrial area De Kil.

The Dordtse Kil is a heavily trafficked tidal waters between the Rhine and the Scheldt, and for sea-going vessels from Rotterdam to Moerdijk and vice versa. Flow direction and flow rate change regularly depending on the tide, wind direction and strength, water levels and runoff of the Rhine and Meuse.
