Doric hexapolis

The Doric Hexapolis in ancient times was a federation of six Doric cities consisting of Kos on the eponymous island, Cnidus and Halicarnassus in Caria and Lindos, Ialyssos Ialyssos and Rhodes.

According to Herodotus of Halicarnassus was excluded as a citizen of the town called Agasikles as a winner in the Triopia the exposed bronze tripod as a prize not as usual immediately donated to the temple, but took home and hung on the wall. The Triopia were discharged in the Triopion near Knidos in the federal sanctuary of Hexapolis Agon in honor of Apollo. The Confederation of the remaining five cities is called Doric Pentapolis.
