Dorin Chirtoacă

Dorin Chirtoacă ( born August 9, 1978 in Chişinău, Moldova) is a Moldovan politician, Vice- President of the Liberal Party and, since June 18, 2007 Mayor of the Moldovan capital Chisinau.

At the 2007 elections Chirtoacă was elected in a runoff election with 61 % of votes. He sat down significantly by a challenger against Veaceslav Iordan ( 38%).

In December 2007, there were tensions between the pro-Western Chirtoacă and the pro-Russian President Vladimir Voronin. Chirtoacă wanted to put up a Christmas tree in the city center on December 25, but this was banned by the government. From the traffic police ( Kifissia Routiera ) he was therefore a criminal mandate over MDL 5500, - ( EUR 325, - ). The background was that Christmas in Moldova is officially celebrated on Russian Orthodox way on 7 January. On December 25, however, Christmas is celebrated in neighboring Romania ..
