Doris Fisher (singer)

Doris Fisher ( born May 2, 1915 in New York City; † January 15, 2003 in Los Angeles ) was an American singer and composer.

Life

Doris Fisher came in 1915 as the daughter of German -born composer and songwriter Fred Fisher in New York City to the world. Inspired by her father beat Doris Fisher, as well as their younger brothers Marvin and Dan, a musical career a. At first she was a singer and performed at, among other things with the Eddy Duchin Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra and her own band called Penny Wise and Her Wise Guys. In 1938 she composed together with Slim Gaillard their first hit song Tutti Frutti, offered her a job as a songwriter on Broadway for Mike Todd's Star and Garter. Two years later, she wrote to her father another hit titled Whispering Grass. Only in 1944 a number of their songs by internationally known artists such as Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, The Mills Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday was singing, which is why they got temporarily nicknamed " Queen of the Juke Box". In 1945, she signed a contract in Hollywood at Columbia Pictures, where she Songs Amado Mio and Put the Blame on Mame for the film noir classic Gilda (1946 ) wrote with the lyricist Allan Roberts with Rita Hayworth. Also for the famous film noirs The Lady from Shanghai ( The Lady from Shanghai, 1947), again with Hayworth, and Late atonement ( Dead Reckoning, 1947) with Humphrey Bogart gave Fisher and Roberts film songs.

After Fisher 1947 Contractors Charles Gershenson married, she retired from the music and film business to the two joint children, Frederica and Ned raise. In the 1950s, Fisher began to be interested in furniture design and interior design. She was so successful in her new career that she was allowed to set up the White House in the Kennedy era. After divorcing Gershenson in the 1960s, Fisher returned to Los Angeles, where she opened two cooking goods stores and so was successful again. Doris Fisher died in 2003 at the age of 87 years in Los Angeles.
