Doris (Greece)

The Doris (Greek Δωρίς ) was an ancient countryside in Central Greece. She lay between Phocis, Mali, Aetolia and Locris Ozolian at the headwaters of Kephisos. The level of Doris was surrounded to the east by mountains.

Doris was considered home ( metropolis ) of the Dorians. In historical times the small landscape was completely insignificant, however, belonged to the Delphic amphictyony.

In the Doris there were four small towns that have been collectively referred to as Tetrapolis ( " Four city "). There were (also called Akyphas ) Boion ( on the northern edge of the Kephisosebene ) Erineos, Kytenion (both on the southern edge of the plane) and Pindos. Kytenion ( at today's Gravia ) lay on an important leading to the south pass road.
