Doris Hare

Doris Hare MBE ( born March 1, 1905 in Bargoed, † 30 May 2000 Northwood ) was a British actress.

Life

Hare grew up as the daughter of theater owners in South Wales. In the 1930s, she held various roles at major theaters and had in the middle of the decade, their first appearance in the film business. While they played mainly theater, she took over parallel minor roles especially in comedy films. It also introduced at the BBC by the imaginary of the Merchant Navy radio show Shipmates Ashore.

Increasing popularity received Hare in the 1970s by the role of Mabel Ethel Butler in the television series On the Buses, when she inherited Cicely Courtneidge from the second season of the series as the mother of the protagonist, played by Reg Varney. The series was so successful that three film spin-off were filmed. After the series ended in 1973 followed by other supporting roles in film comedies, before they returned to the West End theater district.
