Dornach

History museum in the former church of St. Mauritius

Dornach ( in dialect: Dornech or real thorn ) is a municipality and the capital of the district in the canton of Solothurn Dornach in Switzerland.

Geography

Dornachs border is on the mountain side the Gempen and on the valley side the Birs. Dornach is developed with the Jura railway line from Basel to Delsberg and shares its station with the Basel- Landschaft Arlesheim community. On the station square and the tram line 10 of the Basel Land transport ( BLT) of Basel ends here.

Neighboring municipalities are, from north starting Arlesheim BL, Gempen, Hochwald, Duggingen BL, Aesch and Reinach BL.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows two oppositely facing away from fishing black on a white ground. This is also the coat of arms of the district and the Efringer which were from 1394 to 1485, the owner of the castle Dornach.

History

The village is first documented in 1223 as Tornach mentioned ( with Latin Ablativendung - o): John de Tornacho, ie ' [ Secular priest ] John of Dornach '. The name means the estate of Turnus.

Secured is the mention of the 1284 book in the interest of the monastery of St. Alban from Basel. Between 1083 ( founding of St. Alban- monastery ) and in 1284 the monastery must have acquired his property in Dornach. Thus, it could be assumed for the 12th century a settlement activities in Dornach. The village church of Oberdornach is first mentioned in 1301.
