Dornier Do 14

The Dornier Do 14 was an experimental seaplane Dornier -Werke.

Developed the aircraft 1934 as an experimental aircraft for new propulsion studies. The structure was similar to the Dornier Do 12 As a special feature, two BMW VI each with 690 hp installed in tandem in the hull boat. Both engines had a lying between them change gear. With this transmission, optimized engine speeds for takeoff and flight could be achieved, since no pitch propellers were still available. In addition, could be flown from separate clutches with only one engine. From the transmission, the power was passed over a remote shaft with angle gear to the rigid pressure air above the wing screw. As a further improvement of the fuel was stored in the "Dornier - stubs ", which better center of gravity on the water as well as a higher fire safety has been achieved.

This drive arrangement has been rendered obsolete by the introduction of controllable pitch propellers. It was built only a trial copy.
