Dornier Do K

The Dornier Do K was a German passenger aircraft, of which only three aircraft were built in different versions at the Dornier plant in Friedrichshafen.

History

Claude Dornier developed in the late 1920s a new airliner, the in the world economic crisis and due to the inefficiency of the concept proved unsuccessful.

Construction

The three prototypes built K1, K2 and K3 were markedly different from each other.

Do K1

The first Do K had a conventional abgestrebten wing in high-wing design. A single Bristol Jupiter VI radial engine powered the aircraft. The rectangular hull could accommodate 8 passengers and had a closed cockpit.

Do K2

The second prototype was essentially a modified drive with 2 nacelles next to the trunk, where each worked two Gnome - Rhone radial engines in a tandem arrangement.

Do K3

The third prototype was a completely new design with an oval and lengthened fuselage for now ten passengers and a new wing without bracing. The wing shape was also found at the Do 10 and Do at the Y again.

A tailwheel replaced the tailwheel.

The engine nacelles were mounted low on the fuselage; as drive four Czechoslovak Walter Castor radial engines were used. The respective front engine had a four-blade propeller; the rear pusher propeller had only two leaves.

Use

When comparing flying in Switzerland the K3 the first Ju subject 52/3m Deutsche Luft Hansa. Due to disappointing flight performance, the project was not pursued further.
