Dornier Komet

History

The comet models I and II were comet country versions of the transport flying boat dolphin. The wing and tail largely agreed, only the hull could be modified, as it no longer had to serve as a boot. He was also very deep, so that entry without any aid was possible. In the cabin, the passengers sat opposite pairs, the pilot's seat was open on the fuselage behind the wing.

The differences in the comet I and II comet were mainly used in the engines and the associated differences in what dimensions, services and masses were concerned. Already at the New Year's Eve 1922 flew the Comet II was the first German airliner to London Lympne, after a scheduled transport connection London - Berlin was on May 3, 1923 opened. Soon after, the route Moscow -Odessa was flown from March 1924 the Berlin- Dresden- Prague-Vienna. The Dornier Komet flew except in Germany and in the USSR, in Spain and Colombia.

Construction

The Dornier Komet was a high-wing monoplane with struts, not tense all-metal wings. The hull was made ​​in all-metal monocoque construction and was very close to the ground. Even the tail was made of all-metal in normal construction, the oars were aerodynamically balanced. The chassis had provided the axis in the hull and was equipped with a wing- like panel, at the rear was a simple tail skid.
